Nathaniel Hart Powers (1792-1862) and Rebecca LaRue

Thomas Thornton married Susanna Powers.  The Powers family has been well documented as any web search will show.  Walter Powers (1639-1708) apparently left Ireland at age 16, arriving in the USA as an indentured servant where he married and raised a large family.  His great great grandson, Nathaniel Powers (1754-1804), was heavily involved in the American Revolution as a revolutionary and for some reason moved to Leeds County, Upper Canada (where in 1794 he declares that  “… wishing to become a subject to his Majesty and a settler”) ,  where he was to die in 1804.  Nathaniel and his wife Jerusha Hart (1757-) had a number of children, one of them being Nathaniel Hart Powers (1787-1862), born in New Hampshire. He was to marry Rebecca LaRue (1792-1856) who was born in Leeds County, Ontario, a daughter of Hendrick LaRue (1755-1850) and Marritje Schmidt (1753-1806).

Nathaniel Hart Powers and Rebecca LaRue married in Canada in 1809 and by 1811 had moved to the USA.  They returned to Leeds County around 1820 and then in 1830 moved to Durham County, settling around the village of Kirby.  They had the following children:

Photo taken from the 1929 book by John Squairs, Townships of Darlington and Clarke.   Could this photo be of Rebecca (LaRue) Powers?  They look a little like they might be a match for clothing.

Photo of the new grave marker raised for Nathaniel and Rebecca.  Note:  the original stone spells the name as Powars.

Thanks Arnold. As far as I know Maria Jane married Orlando Lent. But I haven’t really investigated her, so if you find other information do let me know.
