Thomas H. Powers

There are a number of people called Thomas Powers so who is the couple in this photo?  I think it as follows.

• Nathaniel Hart Powers (1787-1862) married  Rebecca LaRue (1792-1856).
  • Nelson Powers (1812-1890) married Maria Billings (1813 -1890).
    • Thomas H. Powers (1846-1929) and Alvina Parker (Vina or Nina)  (1874-1952).
      • Helen Parker Powers (1910- 2009).  Married Ken Foster (1906-1989)
        • Janette LaRue Foster (1934-)
        • Robert T. Foster (1936-)
        • Ralph A. Foster (1940-)
        • Paul R. Foster (1945-2008).

Almost 30 years difference in age between Thomas and Vina so there may have been a previous marriage.  Also, Thomas is living in Durham County in 1901 and 1911 but does not appear to have been in Canada prior to this.  Vina’s mother, also called Alvina, was born in the USA and in 1881 is a widow living in Durham County with three young children, one of them Alvina.   Interestingly, Thomas may have rented farm land to Ralph Dowson prior to Ralph’s departure for Saskatchewan.  The Powers and Dowson families still maintain contact.
