Ulysses (Ulissis) Nathaniel Thornton (1865-1925), carrying the name of his grandfather Nathaniel Hart Powers, was the son of Thomas Thornton and Susanna Powers, married Augusta Dale (1859-1916). Ulysses became a doctor and the story goes that he assisted in the delivery of one of his sister’s grand children, Sam Ulyssis Dowson, in Broadview, Saskatchewan. Studied medicine at Trinity University and moved to Illinois (just outside of Chicago), in about 1887. Was listed as an Allopath (a conventional doctor) and died of a stroke in 1925. Buried in Leland, LaSalle County, Illinois.
They had two children:
- Charles Dale Thornton (1893-1967). Married Anne Carlson. Died, and is buried in Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois.
- Dorothy Thornton (1896-1968). I believe she studied nursing in Boston. She too died in Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois. I believe she did not marry.
